St. Paul Pet Hospital provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services designed to cater to the health and well-being of cats and dogs throughout their lives. Their offerings blend preventative care with diagnostic and treatment capabilities, supported by wellness plans.
- Wellness & Preventative Care: This is a core focus, including annual comprehensive wellness exams to evaluate overall health and detect problems early. They offer tailored vaccination programs (including Rabies, Distemper, Leptospirosis, Lyme, Bordetella for dogs; Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV for cats), and year-round parasite prevention (heartworm, fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites).
- Pet Wellness Plans: A key offering designed to make preventative care affordable and convenient. These plans are customized for different life stages (puppy/kitten and adult) and include unlimited comprehensive exams and office visits, vaccinations, diagnostic tests (e.g., heartworm, fecal exams, blood work), deworming, and nail trims. Some plans may include spay/neuter procedures. They aim to save clients 30-60% on preventive care.
- Diagnostic Services: The hospital utilizes various diagnostic tools to accurately identify health issues. These include in-house laboratory services for blood work (e.g., CBC, chemistry panels, electrolytes), urinalysis, and fecal exams.

St. Paul Pet Hospital possesses several notable features and highlights, reflecting its commitment to pet care in Minnesota, even as it navigates ongoing improvements:
- Comprehensive Wellness Plans: A significant highlight is their structured wellness plan program. These plans are tailored for different life stages (puppy/kitten and adult) and are designed to make preventative care more accessible and budget-friendly, reportedly saving clients 30-60% on typical preventative services. This proactive approach to health is a major benefit for local pet owners.
- Compassionate and Kind Veterinary Technicians: Multiple reviews commend the "very kind" and seemingly "happy at work" vet techs. This positive disposition of front-line staff is crucial for creating a welcoming and less stressful environment for both pets and their owners.
- Vets Are Caring and Knowledgeable: While some customers note a lack of continuity with the same provider, the vets are consistently described as "kind" and possessing "extensive expertise." Other external reviews mention "exceptional compassion" from veterinarians like Dr. Eric and Dr. Abby, and their ability to handle complex medical conditions.
- Commitment to Facility Improvement: The hospital has actively addressed past concerns regarding "bad animal smell" and overall cleanliness, indicating a "long-term commitment to addressing the odor issue." This responsiveness to feedback is a positive sign of their dedication to a better environment.
- Focus on Client Education and Transparency: While some initial pricing transparency issues were noted for specific procedures (like spaying), the hospital generally aims for transparent communication, providing clear explanations of treatment options and associated costs to foster trust.
- Prioritization for Urgent Needs: They offer a priority option for acute needs, including additional charges to access appointments reserved for urgently needed office visits. This acknowledges the frustration of limited appointment availability for ill pets and provides a pathway for more immediate care, though it's noted this is a change from past wellness plan benefits.
- Established Presence: With a history in St. Paul, the hospital has served the community for years (one review mentions 5 years for continuous care), indicating a sustained commitment to local pet health.

St. Paul Pet Hospital Reviews
The vibe: "If you have to ask, you cant afford it."This may be an okay vet, but you're probably getting ripped off. In an attempt to establish care they refused to even give a rough price range for a spay procedure. I understand there are some variables in play, but this is also quite a standard procedure with a wide price range. Estimates can range from a few hundred dollars to well over a thousand.Being able to make some basic informed choices is very helpful when trying to approach a new service provider. I would suggest a different communication approach that is more transparent and customer friendly on behalf of prospective clients who are planning procedures.
Jul 02, 2025 · Robert Hagen5 years here and it meets our needs. We have sought services, as needed, for our senior cat and have been enrolled in the wellness plan since our 5 yr old dog's initial puppy shots around 3 months old. First of all, of the vet techs are very kind and seem happy at work. This is huge!I used to notice an overall better experience in their Highland office compared to Cathedral Hill (staff, office cleanliness, appointment availability), but now only Cathedral Hill remains which probably allows them to provide better service. Over the past couple of years, major changes were made to address the bad animal smell in the Cathedral Hill office and this visit is a testament that the office has made a long-term commitment to addressing the odor issue (and I haven't seen centipedes lately either). Access to appointments for acute needs are sometimes limited and can be frustrating when you have an ill pet. They do however, give you a priority option for additional charges to access appointments reserved for urgently needed office visits. That did not used to be the case when you are on their wellness plan (this is a change in operations in the last year or so). The vets are kind but I haven't been able to have continuity with the same provider - I just get who I get even when booking further out and schedules not yet firmed up. I will continue to bring my pet for ongoing care.
Mar 25, 2025 · Shamiere BAfter years of visitng Veterinarians that seemed to want to sell me solutions instead of caring for my pup, this was such a wonderful change of pace! They came highly reccomended by a friend and did not disappoint. All of the staff were amazing and dealt with my anxious Dachshund like she was one of their own. Thank you all for a wonderful visit! They also gave me breakdown of pricing for every procedure and alternate options, I had never experienced that before and it was so refreshing.
Feb 23, 2025 · Lucy StarkWe've taken both cats and dogs to SPPH for years, they consistently provide thoughtful and excellent care through all stages of our pets lives. I'm really grateful for their patience in discussing best options for care, doubly so as pets age and the choices get harder.
Jun 04, 2025 · Sarah PennieI cannot stress enough how wonderful this clinic and the staff are. They've taken wonderful care of my cat, and recently when I had some issues with medication cost Andrea was exceptionally kind and accommodating and worked with me to get my kitty the meds she needed. Would recommend the Cathedral Hill location to any and all pet owners.
