Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital: Johnson Jay DVM Introduce
For many pet owners across Arizona, our families include more than just traditional dogs and cats. From slithering snakes and colorful birds to tiny sugar gliders and curious ferrets, exotic pets bring unique joy and require highly specialized veterinary care. Finding a clinic with the dedicated expertise, equipment, and passion for these diverse species can be a challenge. In Mesa, Arizona, the Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital, founded by Dr. Jay Johnson DVM, stands as a leading and long-established institution devoted exclusively to the health and well-being of non-traditional companions. They are a go-to resource for Arizona locals whose pets have unique needs, distinguishing themselves by focusing solely on exotic animal medicine to be the best in their field.
The Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital recognizes that exotic pets have vastly different physiological and medical needs compared to dogs and cats. Their commitment to this specialized field means their entire practice, from the waiting room to the exam rooms, is designed with the unique sensitivities of exotic animals in mind. They pride themselves on minimizing stress for their patients, understanding that prey animals can be particularly vulnerable to environmental triggers. This deliberate approach ensures a calmer, more comfortable experience for your unique companion.
Founded by Dr. Jay Johnson, a renowned expert with a lifelong fascination for exotic pets, particularly reptiles, the hospital has grown to be a prominent facility in the Valley. While Dr. Johnson has transitioned from clinical practice, he remains deeply involved in the hospital's operations, growth, and development, ensuring the continued legacy of specialized care. The hospital's team is comprised of experienced Associate Veterinarians and well-trained staff who share this passion, making it a reliable choice for exotic pet owners throughout Arizona. Their dedication is evident in their knowledgeable handling of various species and their commitment to client education.
For Arizona pet parents seeking a veterinary clinic that truly understands the intricacies of exotic animal medicine, Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital offers an unparalleled level of expertise. They are equipped to handle a wide array of species, including various types of reptiles, amphibians, birds, and small mammals. This specialization allows them to maintain a deep knowledge base and utilize appropriate techniques and treatments tailored to these specific animals. While professional medical care can involve significant costs, and it's always crucial for owners to have clear communication regarding diagnostic plans and treatment expenses, the hospital aims to provide thorough assessments to determine the best course of action for complex cases, such as an egg-bound snake requiring surgery. Their focus remains on providing comprehensive care for the unique and often complex health needs of exotic pets.

Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital: Johnson Jay DVM Reviews
I brought my snake in for being egg bound. I knew there was an egg still in her it was early visible. They said they needed to do an xray to see exactly what's going on and to see next best course of action based on x-rays. The Dr came back in and told me the xray showed there is in fact an egg in there and charged me 400$ for something I already knew. Then tells me I need a $2k surgery. Not happy with them lying to me about what the xray was going to be for. If they were upfront about it just confirming the egg in there I would have declined. The egg was clearly visible from just looking at her.
Mar 10, 2022 · Chris SanchezHighly recommended - these doctors always take great care of my snakes. The waiting room is nice and they always have lizards on display. The exam room isn't cramped. The staff is really dedicated and friendly. I've seen everything from rabbits to birds to iguanas, you name it. The competent and I wouldn't trust going anywhere else.
Dec 08, 2016 · Nicolle MulhareAfter an unexpected and unfortunate incident, we took in our conure bird who we suspected had already passed. The staff immediately took us in and indeed confirmed his passing. They were incredibly empathetic to our situation, boxed him up and provided us with a foot print memory. I am extremely grateful for the assistance the staff provided us with during a very sad situation. Thank you
Jul 22, 2021 · RoThe vets are really good and would recommend them except for the customer service. The customer service is horrible and would give a zero stars if I could.
