September 18 · Sebastian VanderkolkThey completely misdiagnosed my small dog who had cancer—until it was too late for treatment. They sent me to another vet for X-rays because they didn’t have one—then they never even bother to follow up to find out the results!!! I had never had a dog before and had trusted them to actually give a damn about her.I finally went to Iowa State University for a diagnosis because they’re the best in the state. When they informed me it was too late for treatment I was devastated and howling in pain in one of their checkup rooms. She was my best friend. She remained quietly by my side after I went through multiple traumatic back surgeries and had to learn how to walk again. She comforted me and gave me strength to carry on when all I wanted to do was die.I knew I had failed my beloved dog because I trusted the North Tama Veterinary Clinic!I’m haunted by the fact that she was in pain during the time that I didn’t realize they couldn’t be trusted.I could only take her home and hold her for the last days of her life.THEN when I called them and explained it was time for her to be euthanized they told me THEY WERE TOO BUSY!!! She was in PAIN but they were too busy for a dog they had been seeing since she was a puppy!!!I literally BEGGED THEM to help her! They then told me they could SQUEEZE HER IN but I couldn’t be even a second late because the vet was going out to do preg tests on some cattle. I had to get there immediately. Apparently large animals is where the big bucks are. Then BEGGED them to come to my home so she wouldn’t be scared. I live 2 blocks away and they would drive by my house anyway. I told them I would pay ANY amount to money, I would do anything they wanted. They wouldn’t even consider it.When I took her in they wouldn’t allow me in the room. I threw a fit until they allowed it. I didn’t want her to be alone and frightened. They wanted her to remain on the cold metal table while she died too!!!!F that!I held her in my arms, rocking her and telling her she was the best dog ever. I didn’t break down until later. I’m crying again as I write this. It’s been 10 years since she died. The heartbreak never ends.Do NOT go to the NT Vet if you care about your pet!!!I use the vet in a different town now. They actually CARE about my second dog.
August 12 · Lyla WhannelI took my small cat in (10-11 months old). We found out that she had kidney failure. My two options were to keep her in the clinic for 5 days or put her down. Being as though we had just lost our family dog at the beginning of the week, losing another animal was not what I wanted. So I opted to keep her in the clinic. However, I had done some more thinking and felt I had made the right choice to put MY cat down as I didn't want her to suffer the rest of her life with kidney failure. So yesterday, I went through all the emotional distress to say goodbye to my cat and sign all the paperwork for her euthanization. Later yesterday evening, the vet (Dr. Schlesser) gives me a call to tell me she was at the clinic for my cats euthanasia, but however has gained an emotional attachment to MY cat during her care and if they could find someone to take over her care, would it be okay if they continued on treating her. Not having much time to think that over as we were on the phone, I said by all means if you can find someone that has the means and the funds to help her for the rest of her life then go for it.However now that I think about the situation, it felt like a slap in my face as if I was not also emotionally invested in this sweet baby. As a healthcare worker myself, I cannot get emotionally attached to everyone I take care of, and I would assume the same goes for vets. Both positions have to go through with the hard choices sometimes. So for this vet to allow me to go through that emotional distress of euthanasia, to then override my decision and let MY cat live without her being MY cat has me a bit peeved and I will not be visiting them again.
December 02 · Mikayla HlubekThis is long over due. I've been taking my pets to them for years. My cat Ghost, awhile back had a bowel obstruction. They had to keep him for a couple days to get it taken care of. Not only did they not charge me for hospitalization but boarding because he was "a joy to have and a really cool cat" they stayed open longer than nessicery for me to come and get him after I got off of work. Recently, my cat Squeaks, had an eye infection due to terrorizing the other three lol and they got her in right away. Within the first dose of the meds, a night and day difference. They LOVE our fur babies as much as we do. Kudos and keep it up!!
April 18 · stephanie JacobsonThis clinic and everyone in it TRULY cares - about your pet, their health, and the owner. They listen, go the extra mile to keep you informed and check up, and are extremely good at the care they provide. We have seen many different Vets that work here and are all amazing. Definitely recommend!
