Pet Fish Doctor is conveniently located at 4580 Crackersport Rd, Allentown, PA 18104, USA. This address places the specialized veterinary hospital within easy reach for residents across Allentown and the broader Lehigh Valley area, including neighboring communities such as Macungie, Bethlehem, and Easton. Being situated on Crackersport Road, a known thoroughfare, ensures relatively straightforward navigation for clients arriving by car. While some dedicated pet owners are willing to drive significant distances, as evidenced by a client's two-hour journey, the Allentown location makes it a practical destination for many in Central and Eastern Pennsylvania. Importantly, Pet Fish Doctor also offers telemedicine consults for residents in certain states, including Pennsylvania, which significantly enhances accessibility for those who may find an in-person visit challenging due to distance or the delicate nature of transporting sick fish. This dual approach to accessibility – a physical clinic for in-depth care and remote consultations – makes Pet Fish Doctor a highly convenient and vital resource for fish owners across the state.
Services Offered:
- Comprehensive Fish Examinations: Providing thorough clinical examinations for all species of pet fish, including koi, goldfish, and various aquarium fish, to assess their overall health and identify any signs of disease.
- Advanced Diagnostic Services: Equipped to perform in-depth diagnostics, which may include water quality analysis, microscopic examination of gill and skin biopsies, and potentially other specialized tests to accurately identify the cause of illness.
- Customized Treatment Plans: Developing tailored treatment protocols based on accurate diagnoses, which can involve medication administration, environmental adjustments, and other therapeutic interventions to improve fish health.
- Preventative Health Care Programs: Offering guidance on preventative health strategies, husbandry improvements, and routine examinations to maintain the long-term well-being of aquatic pets.

- Consultations for Retail, Wholesale & Breeding Facilities: Extending their expertise to commercial operations, offering routine visits to diagnose and treat disease, develop fish health programs, and optimize production.
- Lecture and Educational Services: Available to lecture for organizations interested in fish health and aquatic veterinary medicine, sharing their vast knowledge with the broader community.
- Post-Mortem Examination: As tragically experienced by one reviewer, they offer post-mortem examinations to provide answers and closure regarding the cause of death, which can be crucial for preventing future issues in shared tank environments.
Features / Highlights:
- Highly Specialized Expertise: The most significant highlight is their exclusive focus on pet fish. This specialization means their veterinarians, like Dr. Greg Lopresto, possess a depth of knowledge ("the bees knees," "very knowledgeable in a relatively exotic field") that general veterinary practices simply cannot match for aquatic animals.
- Advanced Diagnostic Capabilities: Their ability to "run diagnostics" and provide accurate diagnoses for complex issues like "neurological bacteria" (which another vet missed) demonstrates their sophisticated diagnostic tools and understanding of fish pathology.
- Compassionate and Honest Communication: Customers consistently praise the veterinarians for being "respectful and courteous" and for their honesty about prognoses and treatment success rates. This transparent communication builds trust, even in difficult situations.
- Commitment to Finding Answers: Even when a pet doesn't survive, the value of getting a definitive "answer about what was causing a mass slaughter in my tank" provides crucial closure and prevents future losses, a service deeply appreciated by clients.
- Reasonable and Fair Pricing: Despite their highly specialized nature and superior knowledge, clients find their billing "very reasonable" and even a "bargain" compared to less knowledgeable vets, making specialized care accessible.
- Accessibility through Telemedicine: The option for telemedicine consultations in Pennsylvania significantly broadens their reach, allowing more fish owners to access their expertise regardless of their physical proximity to the Allentown clinic.
- Passion for Aquatic Health: The reviews convey a profound passion for fish welfare, ensuring that every patient, regardless of size or species, receives dedicated and thorough care.

Pet Fish Doctor Reviews
Dr. Lopresto is the bees knees! He examined my sick fish, ran diagnostics, and helped me come up with a treatment plan to get him better. I feel fortunate that there are top notch aquatic veterinarians within driving distance. The visit was well worth the 2 hour drive. For those that can’t make the drive there is an option for telemedicine consult in certain states.
Oct 13, 2023 · Jessica J.After my second fish (Telescope Eye) showed similar symptoms to the first one (Fantail) that passed away a month prior, I was desperate for an answer because I was unsatisfied with the first diagnoses from a vet located in Philly.I called the Pet Fish Doctor in Reading to schedule an appointment for my dying Telescope. Even though they had no availability at the time, they offered to put me on "standby" in case of any cancellations.Lo and behold, one was available in the afternoon and I was there within an hour. After they took my pet in for diagnose, the vet explained that the rapid deterioration may have been caused by a neurological bacteria - which was not even brought up by the other vet. We discussed type of treatments available and he was frank with us about the success rate for each method. He was also honest with us about not holding any high hopes and informed us about what we should do with other pets sharing the same tank enclosure. The doctor and staff were both respectful and courteous. I felt that Dr. Lopresto was very knowledgeable in a relatively exotic field.Even though my fish didn't survive (I didn't expect it to), I got an answer about what was causing a mass slaughter in my tank which gave me the closure that I needed. The bill that I received was very reasonable and dare I say, a bargain, compared to other bills I've paid for a vet with less aquatic animals knowledge.I would not hesitate to come back to this place again even though it's an hour away for any of my fish care.
Jul 09, 2021 · Kaiden HopeI learned so much from my fish's visit. Getting husbandry advice from a highly trained and educated professional vs a hobbyist on the internet was worth every penny and then some. Dr. Palmeiro took the time to answer all of my questions with great detail. I'm very lucky to have a fish vet within driving distance, this is an amazing resource for fishkeepers who care about their pets and are looking for ways to improve their fishkeeping.
