Thornwood Veterinary Hospital is recognized for several aspects, particularly the support provided by its staff and its availability for urgent needs. Here are some highlights based on client experiences:
- Compassionate Support Staff: Many clients consistently praise the kindness and understanding of the veterinary staff. As one review profoundly states, "Everyone but the vet himself was very nice... We had to do the hardest thing a pet owner would ever have to do, we had put our dog Simba down due to him having seizures...they were the most compassionate staff ever!! I really appreciate them for being so understanding and helping him find peace even though it was heartbreaking...thank u so much....R.I.P baby boy." This indicates a strong, empathetic support system from the team members beyond the lead veterinarian, which is crucial during difficult times.
- Understanding During End-of-Life Situations: The hospital is noted for its sensitive handling of euthanasia and supporting pet owners through this heartbreaking process. The staff's compassion in these moments is a significant highlight for grieving families, offering comfort and understanding when it's most needed.
- Ability to Get Pets Seen Quickly: A key advantage for pet owners is the hospital's capacity to accommodate urgent appointments. As one client mentioned, they "appreciate being able to get my dog looked @ quickly." This responsiveness can be invaluable when a pet is in distress and immediate attention is required.
- Accessibility for Urgent Needs: The availability to address urgent medical concerns promptly provides a valuable service to the Pittsburgh community, ensuring pets can receive care without extensive delays.
While the support staff and quick service are frequently highlighted positively, it is important for prospective clients to be aware of varied experiences concerning the lead veterinarian's "bedside manner" and approach, as noted in one detailed review. Some clients have described interactions with the veterinarian as "arrogant & a know it all" and "a little condescending," and there was a particular concern about a rough handling during a procedure on a small dog. This feedback suggests that while the broader staff provides compassionate care, especially during sensitive times, individual experiences with the veterinarian may vary. Clients looking for a gentler approach or extensive, reassuring dialogue from the primary doctor should consider this aspect.

Thornwood Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Everyone but the vet himself was very nice. The vet on the other hand doesn't have that great of a bedside manner. I took him to very arrogant & a know it all. I went in there for 1 reason & he decided to blame me for things that "might" be wrong w/ my dog. I should have known something was just a little off, since I'd walk out w/ tears in my eyes because the woman before me came out of the room crying so hard she seemed to have a hard time catching her breath. Her poor dog kept yipping, what only could make me think the poor dog was in distress. He wasn't rude, just a little condescending. He wasn't TOO rough w/ my dog, but when he checked his anal glands, he has big hands, took his finger & fast as could be, shoved it so far up my dog's butt. Mind you, I have a small Maltese Terrier. My poor dog looked @ me like "Mom, Get me out of here." Although, I do appreciate being able to get my dog looked @ quickly, I don't think I'll be going back. The gentleman is an older man, can barely stand up to take care of the dog. I believe it's time for retirement.

Mar 04, 2025 · Helen HelmsDo not go. I am beyond upset and mad. Went in to get a check up before scheduling a spay surgery. First 2 of the three kept sneaking up on her which any dog will react. She never lunged just growled and barked. She is doing a warning because you literally are sneaking up on her, she never been there before. My dog goes to pet well clinic for check ups and vaccines. Never a problem. I work at a dog daycare. She never gives problems there. She greets the customers with a wagging tail. He wouldn’t even look at her because first her age, too young. He read the year wrong. Then her weight. She was just at pet well clinic and they said perfect size. Then he said her breeds temperament and her temperament. She is a lab /border collie. Um excuse me? Then said she isn’t trained. She never lunged and she listened to me. My dog is very much trained. She got a bad vibe from them and I should’ve listened and just walked out. Probably since he is old he doesn’t want to do any surgery’s or scared of big dogs now. He did my chihuahua years ago and he has lots more attitude than my lab. He took care of my mom’s dog really well a while back. But this guy I have been having issues with for years. He always has an attitude. He did really good with surgery though so that’s why I would go back. But this is it. I will never recommend and never go back. I want to give others a warning before they go in.
Apr 28, 2025 · Katelyn MozuchDr. Schueger is the best when it comes to quality care for your pet. He's amazing with animals and is SO knowledgable but explains everything in a way that makes sense to you! Prices are also cheaper than most clinics around this area and usually products are a better price than online! Jessi and Kona love Thornwood 💜
Nov 05, 2020 · Calley ConnellyAffordable and easy to get an appointment. Seems to do a good job. But the vet asks what I do for a living every time so he knows how to talk to me (I guess on whether he thinks I’m smart enough or not — based solely on my occupation— to understand my dog’s medical care).
