Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic positions itself as an emergency veterinarian service, dedicated to being there for your pet when they need care most. As an animal hospital, they are equipped to handle a variety of urgent situations. This clinic has been a long-standing institution in the community, but like many businesses, it has seen changes in ownership and management over time. Public reviews reflect this, with a notable divide in sentiment between those who were clients of the previous owner and those who have interacted with the new staff. Some recent reviews express significant dissatisfaction, citing concerns about communication, high costs, and what one reviewer described as a "money hungry" approach. What is worth choosing
For pet owners in San Leandro, California, deciding whether to choose a veterinary clinic can be a challenge, especially when faced with mixed reviews. Blue Cross Veterinary Clinic presents a complex picture, but there are still reasons why it might be a necessary or even worthwhile choice. The clinic's primary function as an emergency veterinary service is its most significant asset. In a moment of crisis, having a place that can potentially offer immediate care is invaluable. The fact that the clinic is equipped to handle such emergencies means it fills a crucial gap in the local pet care ecosystem. Furthermore, the clinic's commitment to physical accessibility—with a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking, and restroom—is a major benefit that makes it a practical option for all community members. While recent reviews have raised serious concerns about communication, pricing, and overall customer experience, these are important factors to weigh. The reviews suggest that clients should be prepared to ask detailed questions about costs and treatment plans upfront to avoid surprises. However, for a pet owner in a true emergency, the availability of a local, accessible emergency vet could be a lifesaver. It’s also worth noting that reviews often represent the extremes of an experience. It is possible that for many clients, the service is adequate and effective, even if not perfect. For Californians who live in the San Leandro area and need an emergency vet, this clinic is an option to consider, with the caveat that it is wise to be proactive about understanding all costs and treatment options before proceeding.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Charged us $1,000 and kept having us come back and do more tests. Nobody was in office one time we had appt so had to come back. This vet is totally money hungry. Came back 3 times and cat still ill. Went to a new vet and fixed right away for $80. This guy is also rude and I hope you don't make same mistake I did. Most of the 5 star reviews are for the old vet that this new guy bought the clinic from. Check recent posts.
August 03 · Jaclyn MartinezHorrible experience just over the phone! My aunt has made an appointment at a time I was busy so i was unable to make the first one but it was rescheduled. I called to double check on prices/possibly cancel because they were more than i can afford and the vet started complaining about the first appointment i missed. Very unprofessional and nasty attitude and never answered my questions about pricing. I know there’s more than the initial $50 exam fee and as someone who is low income i need to know prices before committing. My aunt told me he called her to complain to HER! He told i said she would cover the cost of the phone call? Even though that wasn’t mentioned and he hung up on my face. Since when do vets charge for phone calls? Glad me and my senior dog didn’t saw up to this place.
December 16 · JT LAfter spending $800, the doctor did not tell us the root problem of why my dog was sick. I brought him in because he was vomiting(water) and having diarrhea. The doctor prescribed him medication for vomiting and diarrhea but, it was not working. The blood results also took long to get in. I knew something else was wrong with my dog and he was not getting better. I had to take my dog to the ER spending $5,000, and come to find out. My dog was suffering from Pneumonia and an inflamed stomach. On top of that, The medication the doctor gave my dog made him feel more nauseous. DO NOT put the care of your loved animal in the hands of this veterinary. If I didn't have an instinct to take my dog to the ER, my dog could have died because of trusting this place!
March 15 · ariana montanoHad to rush an I'll cat to the vet. I didn't know the previous vet had retired. The new vet very kindly advised me that a lot of tests and treatment would be necessary but would not guarantee that her life would be saved. We decided that it would be thene most humane decision to end her suffering.Like others who were used to the previous vet, I was shocked by the fee. I can understand that it is a new business and he needs to pay his expenses and make a profit. However, I will definitely be looking for a vet who's fees are more in line with my ability to pay.
July 01 · CarolineAlthough the veterinarian and staff are bery friendly, their professionalism is lacking.1. You have to wait days for a reply when trying to make an appointment or order meda for your pet that are only available from a veterinarian.2. They tell you to show up at a specific appointment time and will have you waiting almost another hour3. My grandmother, who referred me to this veterinarian, has been waiting months for lab work that she paid for, for her dog and still hasn't received a phone call, etc. She is an older dog with ailments and having to wait for something you paid a lot of money for is just ridiculous.I'd say for the price they charge per visit and everything else, you would be better off finding a more responsive and responsible veterinarian for your animal.
