Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital Introduce
For pet owners across New Jersey, the search for quality veterinary care is driven by a deep desire to provide the best for their beloved animal companions. Beyond medical expertise, compassion, clear communication, and respectful treatment of both pets and their human families are paramount. This article aims to provide an overview of Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital in Glen Rock, NJ, by presenting publicly available information, including direct customer feedback. It is important for local users in New Jersey to be fully informed when making decisions about their pet's healthcare provider.
Glen Rock, like many communities in New Jersey, is home to dedicated pet owners who seek comprehensive and understanding veterinary services. While the medical care provided by veterinarians is a core component, the overall patient experience – from the first phone call to the moment a pet leaves the clinic – significantly shapes a client's perception and trust. For over two decades, many pet owners have entrusted their companions to Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital, making it a long-standing presence in the local animal care landscape. However, recent feedback suggests significant challenges in client communication and compassionate service.
When searching for a "vet near me" or "animal hospital Glen Rock NJ," pet owners rightfully expect not only professional medical treatment but also an environment where their concerns are heard and their emotional needs are acknowledged, especially during difficult times. The provided customer reviews for Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital highlight a profound level of frustration and disappointment regarding attempts to schedule appointments, lack of return calls, and perceived unprofessionalism and lack of compassion from the office staff. These experiences, particularly concerning the handling of a pet's passing, are deeply distressing for any pet parent and are crucial considerations for local users in New Jersey.
The relationship between a pet owner and their veterinary team is a partnership built on trust and mutual respect. When this foundation is fractured by communication failures and a perceived absence of empathy, it can profoundly impact a client's willingness to continue their patronage. The detailed accounts of prolonged unreturned calls, disrespectful interactions during a time of grief, and perceived delays in services raise serious questions about the overall client experience at this facility. It is imperative that pet owners in New Jersey prioritize not only the medical qualifications of a veterinary practice but also the warmth, professionalism, and responsiveness of its entire staff.
Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital is located at 857 Prospect St, Glen Rock, NJ 07452, USA. This address places the hospital within the residential and accessible areas of Glen Rock, a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey. Prospect Street is a known thoroughfare, and the location would generally be considered accessible for residents within Glen Rock and neighboring communities. However, physical accessibility to the premises does not negate challenges in operational accessibility, such as difficulty in reaching staff by phone or securing timely appointments.
For New Jersey locals, particularly those in densely populated Bergen County, ease of physical access to a veterinary facility is typically a given. However, true accessibility extends beyond mere geography to include the ability to communicate effectively with the office, schedule appointments efficiently, and receive timely responses to inquiries. The reviews indicate that despite the physical location being in Glen Rock, operational accessibility has become a significant source of frustration for long-time clients, impacting their ability to receive necessary care for their pets. This highlights a critical distinction between physical presence and functional availability for local users.
Based on the typical scope of a veterinary hospital and the context provided by customer interactions, Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital would generally be expected to offer a range of essential veterinary services. While specific detailed service lists are best obtained directly from the clinic, these commonly include:
- General Wellness & Preventative Care: This would typically involve routine physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite control, and potentially nutritional and behavioral counseling for companion animals.
- Diagnostic Services: Usually encompasses in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and imaging services like X-rays to help diagnose illnesses and injuries.
- Medical Treatment: Addressing a variety of common pet illnesses, chronic conditions, and general medical issues.
- Surgical Procedures: Common surgeries such as spay/neuter operations, soft tissue surgeries, and potentially some emergency procedures.
- Dental Care: Professional dental cleanings and extractions to maintain oral health.
- End-of-Life Care: Providing compassionate options for pets nearing the end of their lives, which may include euthanasia services and potentially arrangements for cremation. (Note: Customer reviews indicate significant issues with the handling of this service.)
It is important for potential clients to verify the full scope of services and the current operational procedures directly with the hospital, especially given the concerns raised about communication and service delivery.
Based on the provided customer reviews, which predominantly focus on negative experiences, the features and highlights are framed by the critical feedback received:
- Long-Standing Presence in the Community: One reviewer notes being a "long-time patient of over 20 years" and another mentions their family "has been coming to this Veteran for 30 plus years." This indicates a historical presence in the Glen Rock area.
- Veterinarian's Care (as perceived by one client): One customer indicated that the "Veteran is a sweet heart and really care" (referring to the veterinarian), despite their profound dissatisfaction with the staff. This suggests a potential positive regard for the medical professional themselves.
It is critical to acknowledge that these potential "highlights" are overshadowed by significant criticisms regarding:
- Severe Communication Issues: Repeated calls being "completely ignored," "no call back," and difficulty getting through to staff ("took me days to get an appointment you leave messages and no one can bother to call you back").
- Lack of Professionalism and Courtesy from Staff: Described as "beyond disrespectful," "unacceptable," "rudeness," "very nasty and heartless," and "unprofessional."
- Lack of Compassion During Sensitive Times: The most significant criticism involves the "uncompassionate" and "heartless" handling of a pet's passing, denying an owner a proper goodbye, and perceived indifference during a period of devastation.
- Disregard for Long-Term Clients: Loyalty of "20 plus years" and "30 plus years" reportedly not acknowledged or valued, leading to feelings of being "no longer valued here."
- Perceived Inefficiency in Service Delivery: Issues with cremation services, including delays in communication about when ashes were ready for pick-up.

It would also be prudent to inquire about specific communication protocols and service delivery expectations.
When evaluating Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital for pet care needs in New Jersey, particularly for locals in Glen Rock and surrounding Bergen County, it is crucial for prospective clients to consider both the reported medical care and, critically, the documented patient experience. While the hospital has a long history in the community and some clients may find the veterinarian themselves to be caring, the extensive and highly negative customer reviews regarding communication, professionalism, and compassion from the office staff cannot be overlooked.
The deep frustration expressed by long-time loyal clients regarding ignored calls, difficulty scheduling, and, most profoundly, the alleged heartless treatment during a pet's passing, raises serious concerns about the overall client and patient care philosophy. For New Jersey pet owners, who prioritize a supportive and respectful environment alongside medical expertise, these reported experiences are significant deterrents. The ability to communicate effectively with a veterinary office and feel valued as a client, especially during emotionally vulnerable times, is as important as the medical treatment itself.
Therefore, while Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital is physically located in Glen Rock, local users in New Jersey are strongly encouraged to weigh these critical customer experiences carefully. It is vital to seek a veterinary practice where the entire team demonstrates consistent compassion, responsiveness, and professionalism, ensuring that both pets and their devoted owners receive the respectful and caring treatment they deserve throughout all stages of their journey together.

Glen Rock Veterinary Hospital Reviews
I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed with the way your office has handled my attempts to schedule an appointment. For the past month, I have been calling repeatedly, only to be completely ignored. Not a single call back, not a single effort to acknowledge a long-time patient of over 20 years.I have trusted your office with the care of both of my dogs, yet the way I have been treated recently is beyond disrespectful. The lack of professionalism and courtesy from your staff is unacceptable. No pet owner should have to beg for a response, especially from a place they have been loyal to for so long.At this point, I have no interest in ever returning to your office. The disregard for your long-time clients and the rudeness of your staff make it clear that my pets and I are no longer valued here. However, I wanted to make it known how incredibly disappointing and unprofessional this experience has been.

May 20, 2025 · Lyna Cannata-GonzalezWe used to be really happy here. No one answer the phone now . No one returns voicemails that we leave multiple times over . I don’t want to have to chase someone to give them business . Really disappointed as we have been seeing Dr Stekler for 16 years . The last few times we were able to get in touch the person who answered was also less than pleased to hear from us . I guess it may be time to switch .
May 19, 2025 · Gregory AlpherAlways a great experience. I have taken my cat, rabbit and family's cats there. Dr. Stekler is always friendly and a great vet. The waiting area is spa like and love that they give a goodie bag when you leave. It's a nice touch and shows they care about their patients.
Jan 08, 2019 · KristinDr. Steckler and his staff has provided extraordinary care to our Jac for the past 16 and a half years. Our Jac just crossed the rainbow bridge 2 days ago and we would like to thank you for your compassion and love! I highly recommend Dr. Steckler!
