Holistic Pet Vet Clinic Introduce
In the Pacific Northwest, where a natural and holistic lifestyle is often embraced by its residents, it's no surprise that many pet owners in the Portland metro area seek similar care for their animal companions. The Holistic Pet Vet Clinic in Tigard stands out as a unique and invaluable resource for this community. This practice is built on a philosophy that combines the best of conventional Western veterinary medicine with a wide range of holistic, alternative therapies. Led by Dr. Bob Ulbrich, the clinic offers an integrative approach that treats each pet as a whole, focusing not just on symptoms but on the underlying causes of illness. For locals who are passionate about their pets’ well-being and are looking for a more comprehensive and compassionate approach to healthcare, this clinic provides a welcoming and knowledgeable environment. The team’s dedication to understanding the full picture of a pet’s life—from diet and environment to personality and lifestyle—is a cornerstone of their practice, as noted by many satisfied clients who have found a true partner in their pet’s health journey.
The practice itself is a testament to the belief that healing can come from many sources. Rather than defaulting to a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Bob and his team draw from a variety of treatment modalities to create a tailored wellness plan for each animal. This careful, individualized attention is a stark contrast to a more rushed, conventional clinic experience. As one long-time client mentioned, they were recommended to Dr. Bob when moving to Portland and have been "incredibly grateful" for the care received. The supportive staff, including front office personnel and veterinary technicians, are highly praised for their kindness and efficiency, particularly with pets needing frequent care. This dedication to both the patient and the client creates an atmosphere of trust and support, which is especially important for pet owners dealing with chronic or complex health issues. The clinic is also commended for its willingness to support alternative practices like raw diets while still knowing when to lean on conventional medicine, demonstrating a balanced and pragmatic approach to pet health.

Their approach is focused on identifying and treating the root cause of an issue rather than just the symptoms. This comprehensive philosophy results in a wide array of services that may not be available at a conventional clinic. Some of their key offerings include:
- Integrative Wellness Exams: These thorough examinations take into account a pet's entire lifestyle, diet, and history to create a personalized health plan.
- Acupuncture and Spinal Adjustments: The clinic offers these alternative therapies to help with pain management, chronic conditions, and general well-being, often with remarkable results.
- Herbal and Nutritional Medicine: A strong focus on diet and natural supplements is a core part of their practice, with the team providing expert advice on everything from raw diets to specialized herbal formulas.
- Traditional Veterinary Medicine: While their approach is holistic, the clinic is fully capable of providing conventional services, including diagnostic testing, medical treatments, and even some surgical procedures when necessary.
- Non-Anesthetic Dental Cleanings: This service is a testament to their compassionate and gentle approach to care, providing an alternative for pets who may be too old or medically fragile for traditional anesthesia.
- Individualized Vaccination Protocols and Titer Testing: The clinic believes in a limited vaccination protocol, using titer tests to determine if a booster vaccine is truly necessary, reducing the risk of over-vaccination.
What truly sets Holistic Pet Vet Clinic apart are its unique features and highlights, which are frequently mentioned in positive customer testimonials. Holistic Pet Vet Clinic Reviews
So many Vets are scared of animals, wanting to sedate and muzzle, I’m thrilled to find an intelligent, helpful and compassionate care at Holistic Pet, Vet Clinic close to home. PDX
Jul 18, 2025 · Marcella TancretiMy long time vet several states away recommended Dr. Bob when we were moving to Portland and I am so grateful. This office has been incredible ever since we began using them in 2023. They are supportive of our raw diet and preference for holistic care but also are willing to lean on conventional medicine when it is needed. We moved with an elderly dog who needed some care at the end if his life, then adopted a dog who had major health issues. The front office staff and techs are amazing (I would know, I believe my dog has had her blood drawn 20 times in the last 6 months due to a chronic condition) and Dr. Bob really takes the time to listen to us and our concerns and help us address them. When my dog was hospitalized in July they were able to get us in for a visit to continue care and make a long term care plan very quickly. Also their prices seem really reasonable. I don't have any other local vets to compare that to, but to me they seem to really care about keeping prices reasonable for their clients. Basically I can't say enough good things about this office!
Dec 19, 2024 · Anna ClancyMy Frankie was so sick and I had gone to Dr. Bob with Frankie’s regular checkups. My dog has anxiety so it’s hard to tell whether he is just anxious or really sick. Well in this case he really was sick! Not only on a full schedule did they squeeze him in the last minute, Dr. Bob listened to everything I said to make an assessment, even though it was probably time for him to go home. Frankie was having asthma attacks or so I thought. Turns out he had a toxin in his body. It was a hard weekend after we left, and the emergency room was so packed, I was on a hope and a prayer. I was getting flack from people about going the homeopathic route and I even questioned it after I came home that night and gave Frankie his meds that were prescribed. After a full body purge, this champion made it through and now is better then he was a few years ago. His breathing is good, his stomach isn’t gurgling, no more anxiety. He is like a puppy at 10 1/2. Words cannot express my gratitude. And had I gone to a modern day veterinarian, He may have well been prescribed the wrong thing and got sicker. I know now that the quality of life my dog has, has improved. Why wouldn’t you want your dog to spend its last years in as much comfort and joy as possible. I stick to my beliefs of whole body medicine, and believe this was nothing short of a miracle. Do your dog a favor and bring him to this caring and compassionate healing center. There is no better care. Dr. Bob and staff are the Cadillac of vets!Update: My dog has since passed due to the actions of a VCA. I just wanted to tell everyone that, because you need to make sure before you trust veterinarians that aren't trained in holistic medicine, that they might not have your best interest in mind. I would give anything to take back the decision to go to the VCA, but holistic pet vet wasn't set up for emergencies. Someday I hope they can find a way to do this, so that other dogs have a chance to thrive, instead of being subjected to misdiagnosis and costly procedures.
Dec 02, 2024 · L NI cannot recommend the Holistic Pet Vet Clinic enough, they are simply the best! All the wonderful staff really care about the animals they serve and I just absolutely love their whole philosophy regarding Chinese medicine and homeopathy. Dr. Ulbrich is so knowledgable and I feel he really tries to target the true issues in the most natural way rather than prescribe a bunch of medications for symptoms that then have bad side effects. My two pups and I feel so lucky to have found such a great vet, we have been here for over 5 years and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Dec 24, 2024 · Cleo GI heard that Holistic Pet did dental cleanings without anesthesia, and I definitely wanted to give them a try to avoid using anesthesia on my 1 year old dog Pepper. I was a bit confused about which entrance was the waiting room, but it's the smaller one without the food ...the other area is for pharmacy pickups I think :) Anywho, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They provided my dog with fresh water & some yak cheese puffs while she waited. The paperwork was minimal (3 pages), and I actually really like that they use paperwork in a largely digital world. I like traditional things like that.I was able to go back with her for the pre-cleaning physical & talk to the vet for a bit before her cleaning started. The vet provided several nice resources for reading and for training to help Pepper's self-confidence. The vet mentioned that she uses Chinese medicine & that Pepper is likely a wood-water type. I asked more about this, and I didn't feel rushed during the vet portion of the visit. The hygienist took Pepper & it was maybe 15 min before she was finished. As an example from an anesthesia based dental practice - they want drop off at about 7AM and pickup typically at 4PM & your animal is woozy/out of sorts for potentially days afterwards. The hygienist said that her teeth didn't need very much cleaning & she introduced Pepper to the polishing process. The hygienist then did a very thorough breakdown of what to watch out for with her (she has one spot that has teeth crowding) and that she was missing some teeth that never grew in. The vet & all the staff used positive reinforcement with high value and high quality treats like beef liver and yak cheese puffs to make Pepper feel like this was a largely fun and enjoyable process. I enjoyed looking at their selection of high quality food, treats, and toys while I waited for her. The prices for the services and for the food/treats were very fair. Even their bathroom was very nice! We'll definitely be back for Pepper's 6 month cleaning & my cats already have appointments scheduled. The only little gripes I have is that the waiting room is very hot from the sun (I'm not sure what they have access to in order to cool down that space) & I didn't receive a reminder call about the appointment. They also require a deposit for your first visit - so just be aware of that too. Otherwise, nothing but praise for their work :)
