In Lake Oswego, Parkway Veterinary Hospital has long been a part of the community, known for its dedication to pets like Quinn, the anxious Irish Setter, who found positive experiences with their team. However, like many local businesses, veterinary clinics can undergo changes, particularly in ownership, which can subtly or significantly alter their operations. The bond between people and their pets is profound, and the trust placed in a veterinary team is immense. From routine check-ups to managing complex health conditions, pet owners depend on their clinic for timely, accurate, and empathetic care. Parkway Veterinary Hospital, as part of the Animal Care Group of Lake Oswego, has historically prided itself on supporting this human-animal bond. Understanding how these valued local institutions evolve, and what that means for your pet's care, is essential for every Oregonian pet parent.
Parkway Veterinary Hospital is conveniently located at 3996 Douglas Wy, Lake Oswego, OR 97035, USA. This location places it within the heart of Lake Oswego, making it easily accessible for residents of Lake Oswego, West Linn, Portland's southwest neighborhoods, and other surrounding communities. Douglas Way offers good connectivity to main roads, facilitating a straightforward drive for pet owners.
Being situated in a well-established area, the hospital likely benefits from ample parking, which is a significant convenience for pet owners. The design of their facility, as described in public information, includes a spacious and comfortable reception, separate lobbies and exam rooms for cats and dogs to reduce stress, 12 exam rooms for timely appointments, and dedicated areas for surgery, dentistry, and special procedures. These features contribute to a streamlined and less stressful visit for animals and their owners, indicating a thoughtfully designed environment for veterinary care.
Parkway Veterinary Hospital, as a full-service animal hospital and a member of the Animal Care Group of Lake Oswego, provides a comprehensive array of medical services for a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, pocket pets, and exotic animals.
- Wellness and Preventive Care: This cornerstone of their practice includes routine physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols, comprehensive parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworm), and nutritional counseling. Their commitment to preventative care aims to keep pets healthy and detect issues early.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are offered, including routine cleanings, polishing, digital dental X-rays, and extractions when necessary. Proper oral hygiene is crucial for a pet's overall health.
- Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including digital radiology for near-instant X-rays, and in-house laboratory capabilities for blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal examinations. They also utilize advanced equipment in their treatment room for thorough patient observation.
- Surgery: A dedicated surgery area allows for various soft tissue surgical procedures, performed with a focus on patient safety, pain management, and attentive post-operative care.
- Grooming Services: As indicated by some reviews for the Animal Care Group, grooming services are also offered, adding another layer of convenience for pet owners.
- Acupuncture: Public information suggests acupuncture as a complementary therapy offered, which can be beneficial for pain management and other conditions.
- Urgent Care: While not a 24/7 emergency hospital, they are equipped to handle urgent care needs during their business hours.
- Microchipping: Permanent identification via microchipping helps reunite lost pets with their families.
- Comfort Room: A dedicated comfort room is available for end-of-life discussions and consultations, providing a private and supportive space during difficult times.
Parkway Veterinary Hospital has historically been praised for several key features, though recent ownership changes have introduced new considerations:
- Compassionate and Caring Staff: Customers consistently praise the "front desk staff & all their awesome vet techs," highlighting their friendliness and professionalism. Veterinarians like Dr. Todd are specifically noted for making visits a "positive experience" even for anxious dogs, demonstrating a strong commitment to pet comfort. Other reviews for Animal Care Group of Lake Oswego also mention veterinarians like Dr. Laura Klaassen, Dr. Rebecca, Dr. Martin Trerise, and Dr. Michaela Bryant being knowledgeable, kind, and excellent at what they do.
- Positive Environment for Anxious Pets: The clinic's efforts to make visits positive, particularly for anxious animals, are a significant highlight. The mention of greeting anxious dogs and making visits comfortable indicates a focus on low-stress handling. The facility's design with separate waiting areas for cats and dogs further supports this.
- Modern and Well-Equipped Facility: The 9,000 square foot hospital is designed with state-of-the-art equipment for various services, from diagnostics to surgery, including digital radiology and dedicated procedure areas. This indicates a commitment to advanced medical care.
- Strong Human-Animal Bond Advocacy: Parkway Veterinary Hospital, as part of the Animal Care Group of Lake Oswego, explicitly states its commitment to supporting the human-animal bond, recognizing the profound joy and benefits pets bring to their owners' lives.
- Historical Independent Ownership (Past): Previously, the clinic was independently run by Dr. Takashima, fostering a strong sense of personalized care and local connection.
However, a significant change noted by a customer is the recent shift in ownership:
- Change in Ownership and Management Approach: At the end of 2022, the clinic was sold to a large firm, ending its independent ownership. This change has reportedly led to a "completely different" management approach, impacting operational efficiency.
- Delay in Lab Results: A key concern post-ownership change is the significant delay in receiving lab results, increasing from within 24 hours to "5 days." For pets with serious conditions like autoimmune diseases, such delays are critical and potentially life-threatening, causing immense stress for pet owners.

For pet owners in Lake Oswego and the surrounding Oregon communities, Parkway Veterinary Hospital has a long-standing history as a respected veterinary provider. Its pre-2023 reputation, underscored by positive reviews for veterinarians like Dr. Todd and the consistent praise for the front desk staff and vet techs, indicates a high level of compassionate care and a welcoming environment, particularly for anxious pets. The well-designed, modern facility and comprehensive range of services, including specialized areas and acupuncture, suggest a strong commitment to providing advanced medical care.
However, the recent change in ownership to a "large firm" marks a significant shift, and the customer feedback regarding delayed lab results is a critical point for consideration. For pets with chronic or acute conditions requiring timely diagnostics, a five-day turnaround for lab results, compared to the previous 24-hour service, is a serious concern that could impact treatment efficacy and pet well-being. This suggests that while the caring staff and excellent facility remain strong points, the operational efficiency, particularly concerning external lab services, has been affected.
Therefore, Parkway Veterinary Hospital may still be suitable for locals seeking compassionate care for routine check-ups, vaccinations, and general wellness where immediate lab results are not critical. The dedication of the individual staff members, as consistently praised, continues to be a strong asset. However, for pet owners whose animals have complex or autoimmune diseases requiring urgent diagnostic turnarounds, it would be prudent to discuss these concerns directly with the clinic and potentially explore alternative solutions or backup options for specialized lab work.
In essence, Parkway Veterinary Hospital continues to offer a broad range of services in a welcoming environment, largely due to its dedicated staff. For Oregonians considering this clinic, understanding the potential impact of recent management changes on diagnostic turnaround times is key to ensuring it meets the specific needs of their beloved animal companions, especially those with sensitive health conditions.

Parkway Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Dr Todd is a wonderful vet. Quinn our Irish setter is an anxious dog and they always greet him and make his visits a positive experience
Nov 25, 2024 · gail b2023 UPDATE: Unfortunately the owner Dr. Takashima has retired. We still love their front desk staff & all their awesome vet techs (Hence we keep the rating)The clinic was sold to a large firm at the end of 2022. It is no longer independently run by a caring owner, the management approach is completely different. Now, It takes 5 days to just get the lab result (it used to be available within 24 hours). Management does not seem to care to find a backup lab to fix the problem.Unfortunately, we cannot wait around since three of our dogs have autoimmune diseases and significant delays in bloodwork results can cause death.
