The Fish Room is a specialized aquatic store, focusing entirely on the needs of fish, coral, and aquatic plant enthusiasts. Their services and product offerings are tailored to provide a complete solution for aquarium keeping.
Extensive Selection of Freshwater Fish: They offer a wide and diverse range of freshwater fish species, catering to various types of freshwater aquariums, from community tanks to cichlid setups.
Vast Assortment of Saltwater Fish and Creatures: For marine enthusiasts, The Fish Room provides an amazing assortment of saltwater fish and other creatures, including invertebrates. Customers have noted that "everything looked healthy and well cared for," which is crucial for marine livestock.
Live Coral Selection: They feature a selection of live coral, catering to the growing demand for vibrant reef tank inhabitants. This indicates a commitment to higher-level aquatic keeping.
Aquatic Plants: The store stocks a variety of aquatic plants, essential for creating natural and thriving freshwater aquascapes.
Aquarium Supplies and Equipment: A comprehensive range of products, including tanks, filtration systems, lighting, heaters, water conditioners, testing kits, décor, and specialized foods for all types of aquatic life.
Expert Advice and Knowledgeable Staff: The staff are highlighted as "incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, ready to answer any questions you have." This guidance is invaluable for both beginners and experienced aquarists looking for advice on setup, maintenance, or specific livestock care.
It is important to note a review mentioning issues with online orders for "tissue culture" plants, citing a "dead, brown plant" received with "no gel" and a "no refund" policy for what was perceived as a "shady operation." This particular negative experience appears to be related to an online purchase and shipping, rather than the in-store experience with live animals or physical products. While the in-store experience seems highly positive, potential customers considering online purchases, especially for delicate items like tissue cultures, might want to inquire about current shipping and return policies directly.
The Fish Room distinguishes itself through several compelling features and highlights that make it a standout destination for aquatic enthusiasts in North Carolina:
Brand New, Beautiful, and Well-Organized Location: The recent move has been a significant upgrade, with customers "beyond impressed" by the "absolutely beautiful, with a clean, well-organized layout that makes Browse a pleasure." This inviting atmosphere enhances the overall shopping experience.
Healthy and Well-Cared-For Livestock: A consistent theme in positive reviews is the apparent health and excellent condition of the fish, corals, and other creatures. This is paramount for responsible pet ownership and a thriving aquarium, with customers noting, "everything looked healthy and well cared for."
Deep Staff Expertise: The staff's profound knowledge is a major asset. Their ability to answer "any questions you have" and provide insightful guidance sets them apart from general pet stores. This ensures that customers receive accurate and helpful information, crucial for maintaining complex aquatic environments.
Specialized Focus: By concentrating solely on aquatic life and supplies, The Fish Room can offer a depth of selection and expertise that broader pet stores often cannot match. This specialization benefits enthusiasts looking for unique species, high-quality equipment, and advanced advice.
Impressive Assortment: The "amazing assortment of both freshwater and saltwater fish and creatures" caters to a wide range of aquatic interests, making it a comprehensive source for almost any type of aquarium setup.
Positive In-Store Customer Experience: Despite one negative online experience, the in-store reviews paint a picture of highly satisfied customers who "love everything this spot has to offer and can’t recommend it enough." This positive sentiment indicates a strong commitment to in-person service quality.

The Fish Room Reviews
We visited The Fish Room’s new location to see what had changed, and we were beyond impressed! The store is absolutely beautiful, with a clean, well-organized layout that makes browsing a pleasure. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, ready to answer any questions you have. They offer an amazing assortment of both freshwater and saltwater fish and creatures—everything looked healthy and well cared for. The only thing missing is the pond section, but the rest of the selection more than makes up for it. Overall, I love everything this spot has to offer and can’t recommend it enough for all your aquatic needs!
Feb 12, 2025 · Taia JenkinsI found this seller through a Google search for tissue culture. Their website promised tissue culture with next-day shipping. I ordered on a Sunday but received no shipping updates by Tuesday, so I emailed them—no response. Over a week later, I got a small cup with dark brown water, no gel, and a dead, brown plant. Clearly, they sent a product that should’ve been trashed. Their “no refund” policy is outrageous for such a shady operation. I emailed twice after receiving it—still no reply. Thankfully, I paid with a credit card, reported them, and got my refund. But how many others got scammed? Avoid this seller unless you want to deal with a dishonest business. Pay with a credit card or steer clear! This is a well deserved review and for others whom has yet to speak up!
May 09, 2025 · MAILBOX 1155Great aquatic store! Fresh water, salt water, tanks, tank systems, tank supplies, beautiful variety of fish, RO water, knowledgeable staff. Been going here for a few years now. The old store was Capital and Old Wake Forest Rd (close to BJ's) and now moved just down Capital/US 1 almost to Spring Forest Rd.
Mar 22, 2025 · Heidi MoravcikTerrible experience this place sucks. Very poor customer service experience. As soon as I walked in the store, everyone that worked there retreated to the back and just hung out. As you can see in the pictures absolutely no one is around. The young lady you see that worked there liberally just walked passed me and didn’t say a word. I had to wait about 20 minutes until someone had helped me who was already busy with someone else at the time. When I had made my transaction is when workers started walking up and hovering over the register making me very uncomfortable. I will not be returning hope this place shuts down it’s over priced as hell anyways. I’m going back to aquarium outfitters for sure
Nov 25, 2024 · The TruthThis may be one of the only places in the area, but that shouldn’t mean we have to accept poor service. We went last Monday for a new fish for the reef tank and were in there probably 30 mins browsing the tank area. There were several dead fish in the tanks, one sick tank (white spots…) and none of the price menus were on for coral prices. The red headed lady working stayed behind the register on her phone the entire time. The other man working was going back and forth between back rooms. No one spoke. No one asked if we needed help. Several people came in while we were there, but no one came to help them either. As we walked out the red headed lady was propped up against the checkout counter with her back to the store on her phone and I heard one of the other customers “can we get some help please?”
