She and her tech Tracy took wonderful care of my cat. He needed a wellness exam and shots, and some baseline blood work. They were gentle and caring, and Dr. Helm gave him a thorough exam. It was stress free for my cat, and me! I would definitely recommend her!
February 07 · karen RodriguezMy poor dog was stuck at the animal shelter, as he needed a rabies booster after being involved with a raccoon and subsequently quarantined. The shelter doesn't currently have a vet except for Saturdays and so I was fortunate that they came out and gave him his needed rabies shot so I could bring Jackson home after 13 days at the shelter. It was under extraordinary circumstances, but they were able to reschedule a couple times for me. The price was very reasonable and I was happy to pay to get my poor dog out of jail. Also very professional and I appreciate what she does. Thanks Again -Nathan (and Jackson)
January 15 · NathanI have been going back and forth about writing this review. But due to the fact that this keeps me up nearly every single night still, after 3 months, I feel I owe justice to my cat Tuna - in honor of what would've been his 13th birthday.I had Dr. Helm and her assistant come to the house to euthanize him, as he was no longer able to use his back legs and eventually became incontinent - I felt it was easier on him to have a mobile vet come to the house and I wanted him to be in a comfortable environment. From the beginning of the visit, I regretted the decision. First, she wanted her assistant to hold him while she injected the initial medication to put him to sleep. I had to tell her instead that I wanted to hold him for this part, as I knew he wouldn't remember anything after that point, I wanted him comfortable in my arms. Then as she injected him, she's talking to me the whole time asking questions about my home that I recently lost in the hurricane. Once I realized that he was no longer conscious, she said she was talking to me to distract me! No, no, no! I wanted to talk to him and be present WITH HIM. Then she shaves his arm to inject the medication to stop his heart, while she's standing up and we're lying on the ground. As she's injecting, still standing and bent at the hips, she can't get his vein. She blew it the first time and says, "I think I blew it." I'm a nurse, I knew that's what happened. I said, "you did, I can see you did." So she says she's going to try one more time and if she doesn't get it, she'll find another vein. Well she "gets it", or so we thought.I chose to drive his little body to Nature's Pet Loss in Brooksville to have him "aquamated." On our way there, the unthinkable happens and Tuna is very clearly breathing again. We pulled into a vet's office that is very close to Nature's Pet Loss, I'm hysterical. They confirm by checking his heartbeat AND SEEING HIM BREATHING that he was in fact, still alive. They now have to administer the medication directly into his heart because there is not enough blood flow to his peripheral veins to reach his heart. This was absolutely traumatizing to watch. I am so glad I chose to drive Tuna myself to have him aquamated or who knows what he would've endured, still alive.I know Dr. Helm did not do this intentionally. But I do know she could've gotten down on her hands and knees to get a better view of what she was doing during this crucial step. There could've been more compassion throughout the whole process instead of what I felt was rushed. I live every day regretting the decision I made and I know if I had read this review online, I would've never chosen Dr. Helm to help him cross the Rainbow Bridge. I feel that I owe this to Tuna. Happy birthday, Big Orange.
March 13 · Brianne SwannDr Helm and her assistant Tracy were very accommodating- on very short notice when we were unable to get our Doberman in the car for vet care. They took time to thoroughly examine Max. When the bloodwork came back, Dr Helm explained all possibilities of what could be wrong and options for treatment. We ultimately determined that our boy was ready to cross the rainbow bridge. We never felt pressured and felt like we had all information explained to us in full by Dr Helm. She even called us from a personal appointment on a Saturday to discuss tests results. I highly recommend this compassionate team.
December 07 · Denise MilamI am posting in response to Danielle Neal's review. All her communications with us were to schedule an appointment for an in home euthanasia. When we accommodated her request to reschedule, so the whole family could be there, to the next morning, she never said it wasn't to euthanize her dog. I always evaluate a pet before a euthanasia, I also have never had a client request a euthanasia for a well pet. So I was expecting we would probably be doing what she requested. So when she met us at the door I did have a sedative in a syringe because that is the first step...I did not bring in a euthanasia drug or anything else I needed to perform a euthanasia. The way the conversation was going I figured out that she had changed her mind and wanted us to evaluate her pet and asked her if that was correct. Her sweet dog had multiple major problems, so my evaluation for a suffering older dog was to do diagnostic testing to see if the dog could be helped or let him go. He was not having quality of life in his conditions.His loss of appetite and large weight loss and mobility issues are all needing to be addressed. You can't hardly fix just one. If testing showed you can do a surgery to fix mobility, your not going to do it if your dog is so sick he doesn't want to eat. I know how stressed Mrs Neal was in coming to terms with her dogs issues, the tears you cry, having to deal with family members concerns and opinions too and wanting to do the right thing. I hope she understands and I wish her all the best, Dr Helm
