Surgery performed on July 16th 2024- Brought 7.5 lb Yorkie in to remove a cracked tooth, provide teeth cleaning, and remove a few benign tumors from the abdomen.Monkey was 12 years old at the time of this surgery. She is considered elderly so it was insisted and urged that we do an extensive blood panel to ensure there were no pre-existing issues to be aware of before surgery and just an overall check up of all her functions — very standard practice so we felt comfortable to continue. It’s important to note that while waiting to check in for this procedure ANOTHER patient was berating Dr. Usman for the clinics practice model but I chose to take it with a grain of salt because prior to this incident our time at Doolittle (regular check ups and to pick up flea medication) was for the most part always pleasant. We picked our dog up from surgery same day and all seemed well. Five weeks later on Thursday August 22nd 2024 I called Doolittle inquiring about Monkeys blood panel test results because they never followed up (appears to be a pattern with this clinic). I was told Dr. Usman was busy but would call me back to go over the results. I didn’t receive a call back but the next morning on August 23rd Dr. Usman called my partner asking him how monkey was doing and asked that we bring her in immediately for testing because he was concerned with the levels he was seeing on her PRE Op blood work. Essentially they called us concerned for monkeys wellbeing because the results they were seeing were dangerously/fatally low. My partner calls me concerned and tells me that we need to bring Monkey back in to re test and that’s when my confusion immediately set in.Why would the vet be so concerned with these results 5 weeks later? Why didn’t we receive a call the morning of her surgery? (reminding surgery was performed 5 weeks prior to this correspondence on 7/16/24) How was surgery even performed with these types of results? We bring Monkey in right away to redo the testing and make sure she was actually okay and I brought Dr. Usman all my questions. I’m frustrated but keeping my composure, my voice is elevated but I do everything in my power not to rip into this grown man as he looked me in my eyes and admits they never looked at the pre op test results because his vet techs never handed them to him. These are vet techs that didn’t even look to be 21, this is the authority in this establishment and he looked at me and essentially admitted that they performed invasive surgery, one that required sedation on my elderly dog with no understanding of her health because his team didn’t physically hand him/provide the information.Dr. Usman hid behind his team and blamed them for not upholding the standard HE should be setting and expecting of them. I was told that there was an error in their system and that’s why the results all reported zero. I asked how a patient could yield results so concerning and still have surgery performed and he admitted that they never looked at them prior to her procedure. We paid over $500 dollars for test results that were faulty and never considered…That had to be the most unprofessional and terrifying response I couldn’t have ever gotten given that my dog was literally recovering from the surgery that had already been performed. Monkey has thankfully since recovered and my family is beyond grateful for that but I see that there have been several owners who sadly didn’t have the same outcome despite everything else and my heart truly goes to them. This clinic is ripe with negligence — please heed others warnings about bringing your babies here - Aria Holmes
