- Pricing and Transparency: Some clients have expressed concerns about prices being significantly higher than other local vets and questioned the necessity of certain recommended labs or services, suggesting a lack of transparency or justification for costs.
- Difficulty in Direct Communication with Veterinarians: At least one review indicates difficulty in speaking directly with a veterinarian (e.g., Dr. Diaz) for explanations regarding costs or medical reasoning, with staff handling all such interactions, which can be frustrating for clients seeking direct clarification.

VCA Lake Shore Animal Hospital Reviews
It was clean and quiet in the waiting room. But we spent an hour in the exam room just for a simple wellness visit. That room reeked of dog urine and gave me a headache. I can't imagine how much the smell contributed to my cat's anxiety. The vet tech was so nice but did their communication was horrible. I thought maybe we'll come back since the vet was great - then we find out that vet was filling in for someone on vacation! I would have given 5 stars despite the smell but we didn't need to be there for over an hour and a half. The worst part was that they did not actually order my cat's prescriptions and when I got in touch about it they made the order without responding to me to let me know what was going on or tracking info. I am glad I asked for a paper copy of the Rx food we were running out of so I could get it at PetSmart. It wouldn't have come before I left town. They didn't actually put in the order for 10 days after our visit. Please you guys do better. You can't play with details for vulnerable animals like that.
May 24, 2025 · FrankIt's heartening to know that so many others have had the same awful experience I did here and I hope others are more cautious about going to VCA in the future than I was. Dr. Diaz is quite frankly an unwelcoming and unpleasant scam artist. Prices here are 2-3x as high as those of other vets in the area. They wanted to redo work I had already had done elsewhere, and the service plans are designed to gouge you for every penny. When I asked to speak to Dr. Diaz for an explanation of the costs and reasoning behind repeated unnecessary labs (for which they charge far more than other places), in an effort to speak to him directly (which I now know from reading other reviews is impossible as he makes his staff handle all interaction involving him likely due to these same reasons), I was hung up on. Since then I have read many reviews from others who have experienced the same sort issues with VCA, and I only hope others won't make the same mistake of going here in the first place like I did.
Apr 28, 2025 · Adrian LeoI strongly urge pet owners not to user this practice. While the reception team and techs have been very kind, Dr Diaz lacks compassion and bedside manner. Recently our dog was diagnosed with an incurable disease which requires medication for life. We were told the doctor would contact us with test results. We were never contacted, simply told our prescription was ready for pick up but unknown as to results or outcome. We asked to speak with Dr Diaz or to make an appointment to speak with him. We were instructed that it was best to email him because he was moody and unresponsive. We were also told to CC the front desk and they would be sure to have him respond. I find this behavior unacceptable and we decided to end our use of this clinic and seek answers else where. It’s unfortunate that a vet has lost his compassion who owners so seek answers. I hope he finds it, until then, I urge owners to seek better clinics in the Chicago area.
Mar 11, 2025 · Kyle F. FinanWe adopted a cat from PAWS and used our "complimentary vet visit" at this location. We have been struggling to get the newly adopted cat to be friendly with our resident cat after about 1.5 weeks of trying. We went over what we have already tried and the first thing out of the technicians mouth was "You can always return her to the shelter", with a serious tone and inflection.I found it baffling that is the first suggestion to our question. It did not get any better either, every question we asked we were told "there are really good resources online that you can find, there are a million".I was hoping for more professionalism and knowledge for someone who chose to be a vet. I don't understand why we wasted our time, and stressed out the cat to be told to google our issues.I would never recommend this vet to anyone.
Apr 13, 2025 · LeeLaxEvery member of the staff is always kind and take incredible care of my cat every time we visit. Leaving this review because they are the only company who does not punish you with their subscription model. They make sure you are getting the full value of the Care Club package and they work with your situation.
