South Rainbow Boulevard is a well-known road, which typically simplifies navigation and helps pet owners find the clinic without undue stress. The convenience of the location on a main road can be a significant advantage, especially when transporting pets for appointments.
For those traveling by personal vehicle, locations on major boulevards often provide parking options, which is a crucial consideration for pet owners. Ample and easily accessible parking facilitates a smoother arrival and departure, particularly when handling pets, who may be anxious or require assistance.
While specific public transportation routes would need to be verified with local transit schedules for stops nearest to 1550 S Rainbow Blvd, its presence on a major roadway suggests it is likely served by some local bus routes. While the provided customer reviews offer specific insights into pet care for birds and cats, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) generally provides a comprehensive range of services for various companion animals. Based on the reviews, Dr. Fujikawa has experience with both avian and feline patients, suggesting a versatile practice. Common services typically offered by a general veterinary practice would include:
- General Wellness Exams: Routine check-ups are fundamental for preventative care, including physical examinations, weight assessments, and discussions about nutrition and behavioral health. These are crucial for early detection of potential issues.
- Vaccination Programs: Administering essential vaccinations to protect pets from common and serious diseases, with schedules tailored to the pet's species, age, lifestyle, and local risk factors.
- Parasite Prevention and Control: Programs for the prevention and treatment of internal parasites (e.g., heartworms, intestinal worms) and external parasites (e.g., fleas, ticks), which are particularly important in Nevada's environment.
- Diagnostic Services: This would typically include in-house laboratory capabilities for blood tests (as mentioned for the parakeet), urinalysis, and fecal exams for quick and accurate diagnoses. Imaging services like X-rays may also be available.
- Dental Care: Professional dental cleanings and oral health assessments to prevent and address periodontal disease, which is vital for overall pet health.
- Surgical Procedures: While specific surgical procedures are not mentioned in the reviews, a DVM is generally trained to perform routine surgeries such as spaying and neutering, and potentially other soft tissue surgeries, with appropriate anesthesia and post-operative care.
- Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for pets of all ages and with specific health conditions, including prescription diets.
- Microchipping: Offering microchip implantation for permanent identification, greatly increasing the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners.
- Senior Pet Care: Dedicated care plans tailored to the unique needs of aging pets, focusing on managing age-related conditions, pain management, and enhancing their quality of life.
- Pain Management: Customized strategies for both acute and chronic pain relief, employing various approaches to ensure your pet’s comfort and well-being.
- Behavioral Counseling: Professional advice and effective strategies for addressing common behavioral challenges, promoting a harmonious relationship between pets and their families.
- Specialized Avian and Feline Care: The reviews specifically highlight care for parakeets and cats, indicating a particular comfort and expertise with these species, which can be a significant advantage for owners of these animals.
It is always advisable to directly contact Fujikawa Terri DVM to confirm the specific services they offer for your particular pet and to discuss any specialized needs.
Based on the provided customer reviews, Fujikawa Terri DVM demonstrates several key features and highlights that are particularly relevant for pet owners seeking veterinary care in Las Vegas.
- Specialization and Experience with Birds and Cats: A significant highlight is Dr. Fujikawa's demonstrated experience and "extreme care and gentleness" when treating birds (parakeets, pigeons) and cats. This is particularly valuable for owners of these specific species, as not all general practices have the same level of comfort or expertise with avian patients.
- Empathetic and Gentle Approach: Reviewers consistently mention Dr. Fujikawa's gentle handling and caring demeanor towards animals, which is crucial for reducing stress during veterinary visits, especially for anxious or sensitive pets.
- Forthright and Clear Communication: One reviewer noted that Dr. Fujikawa was "very foreright in explaining chances of survival" for a "terminal" feral pigeon. This indicates a commitment to honest and direct communication with pet owners about prognoses and treatment expectations, even in difficult situations.
- Dedication to "Children" (Pets): The phrase "anyone who loves and cherishes their 'children'" suggests that Dr. Fujikawa resonates with pet owners who view their animals as integral family members, reinforcing a compassionate approach to care.
However, it is also important to acknowledge an opposing viewpoint presented in one review:
- Concerns Regarding Stressful Procedures: One negative review highlighted a critical concern regarding the lack of communication about the potential stress of a "simple blood test" for a parakeet, which tragically passed away later the same day. This suggests that, in some instances, communication about potential risks or post-procedure care may be an area for improvement. For owners of delicate or small exotic pets, understanding the full scope of risks is paramount.
These points offer a dual perspective on the practice, showcasing strengths in gentle handling and direct communication, while also indicating a critical incident that raises questions about pre-procedure risk disclosure for highly sensitive patients.

For residents of Las Vegas and the surrounding Nevada region, Fujikawa Terri DVM presents a veterinary care option that warrants careful consideration based on the specific needs of their pets. Its location on South Rainbow Boulevard offers straightforward accessibility, a practical benefit for those navigating the city for pet appointments. The reviews highlight Dr. Fujikawa's particular strengths in providing "extreme care and gentleness" to avian patients like parakeets and pigeons, as well as cats. This specialization or comfort with certain species can be a significant draw for owners of these animals, who might seek a vet with demonstrated expertise beyond general canine care. Furthermore, the commitment to being "foreright in explaining chances of survival" indicates a direct and honest communication style, which many pet owners value when facing difficult health decisions.
However, it's equally important for locals to acknowledge and consider the critical feedback regarding a parakeet's passing after a blood test, where the owner felt unprepared for the procedure's potential stress. This underscores the importance of thorough pre-procedure counseling, especially for fragile or exotic pets. Ultimately, the suitability of Fujikawa Terri DVM for locals will depend on their specific pet's needs and their prioritization of factors like specialized avian/feline care versus the need for comprehensive risk disclosure for all procedures, particularly for highly sensitive animals. For those with birds or cats seeking a gentle and direct veterinary approach, Dr. Fujikawa's practice offers distinct advantages, but potential clients should feel comfortable asking detailed questions about potential risks for any proposed treatment.

Fujikawa Terri DVM Reviews
We took our parakeet into this vet today January 27 they said for a simple blood test at 11:00 am and at 5:30 pm our little Blue passed away. I would not recommend this vet to any one. When we left the first time she did not tell us it would me very stressful for our bird.
Jan 28, 2018 · Liz MarkeyDr. Fujikawa has been our "family" vet for many years and during these years she has treated our birds and cats with extreme care and gentleness. Sometimes when I bring her a feral pigeon that appears "terminal" she was very foreright in explaining chances of survival. I will not hesitate in recommending Dr. Fujikawa to anyone who loves and cherishes their "children".
Jan 29, 2019 · Catticus FelineDr. Terri has always given us respect and care with our three pets, (2 dogs and a parrot). Yesterday, under a new branding a Dr. Anderson was a disappointment as well as the receptionist, very disrespectful. We have been clients for over 5 years and will be moving our business to a better vet office. Dr. Terri was not in the office the day we were there.
Nov 28, 2020 · Tony AmatoI absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. We see Fr. Fugikawa for our exotics. She is so knowledgeable and caring. Very informative and encouraging. I never feel like it’s about the money.
Apr 03, 2022 · Kimberly PavalkoThis office is amazing. They are very experienced with exotic and your every day pets as well. I am so glad that we have a relationship with this office and will never bring my pets elsewhere.
