Why is Preiser Animal Hospital a choice worth considering for pet owners in the Illinois region? The decision often comes down to balancing professional care with personal experience, and the reviews provided offer a look into both.
A positive review from a long-time client praises the hospital as "one of the best, most caring, kind, and loving animal hospital we have used." This reviewer highlights the doctors as being "very very very good," and notes that the staff is "wonderful," always ready to help. The sentiment that their pet is not just an animal but a family member is strongly shared, and they confidently state that you will "get the best health care for them here." This review emphasizes a feeling of trust, compassion, and high-quality medical care, which are core pillars of a positive veterinary experience.
However, a second, very negative review provides a stark contrast. This client's experience with a billing issue during a very sensitive time—the euthanasia of their cat—raises serious concerns about communication and customer service. They describe a significant discrepancy between what was promised (a deposit applied to the euthanasia cost) and what was billed (a charge for a "wellness exam" for a dying cat). The review points to a "lack of communication" from the billing person, Jamie, and an overall sense of being taken advantage of at a vulnerable moment. This type of experience is deeply distressing and highlights the importance of clear, honest communication and billing practices, especially during difficult times for pet parents.
In light of these contrasting reviews, a potential client can make an informed decision by weighing what is most important to them. On one hand, the hospital is praised for its compassionate and loving medical care, a great staff, and a deep understanding of the human-animal bond. This is what draws many people to the practice and keeps them coming back. On the other hand, the negative review points to a serious breakdown in client service and professional conduct during a specific, vulnerable interaction. While this may not be representative of every visit, it serves as a reminder to be vigilant about billing and to seek clear communication, particularly for non-routine services. The positive reviews suggest that for many, Preiser Animal Hospital provides excellent, loving care, making it a valuable resource for the community.

May 31 · Scott CohenI called Preiser Animal Hospital on March 31 and asked if the hospital provides euthanasia services for cats. I told the hospital that my cat had nasal cancer and was in the last stage of his life. I was told that since my cat had not been their patient, they would need a note from his current veterinarian and pay a $76 deposit. They made it clear to me that the deposit would be applied to euthanasia cost. I told the hospital specifically that I would bring the note and simply need to have my cat put down. I paid $76 deposit over the phone. My son and I took my cat to the hospital in the late afternoon. A doctor and technician came in and put my cat down. My son paid the final bill without going through item by item (we were very sad about losing our beloved cat at time). I later found out that instead of applying the $76 deposit to the euthanasia, the hospital charged us $76 for Exam-Wellness. My cat was dying and didn't need wellness care. I called the hospital twice and went in-person once and tried to resolve the billing issue. Jamie, the person in charge of billing, never called me back or spoke to me (the front desk always said she was busy and couldn’t talk to me). The lack of communication was unprofessional and astonishing for a well-established business. They either lied to us or took advantage of us at our most vulnerable time. Please record your conversation with them or write down what they tell you.
