John Rolfe Animal Hospital understands that a trip to the vet can sometimes be a source of anxiety for pets and their owners. Their approach is centered on making each visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible, ensuring that your "girls" (as one reviewer affectionately called their pets) feel at ease. From routine check-ups to general health concerns, they are committed to fostering a positive experience, building long-term relationships with the pet families they serve in the Richmond community.

This location reinforces its role as a local and convenient veterinary option for the Richmond community.
While a detailed, exhaustive list of all services is not explicitly available from the provided reviews, a general animal hospital like John Rolfe Animal Hospital typically offers a comprehensive range of veterinary care for small animals. Based on the customer feedback, their core offerings likely include:
- **General Veterinary Consultations and Check-ups:** Providing routine wellness examinations to monitor pet health, detect issues early, and ensure overall well-being. This would include standard physical assessments and discussions about pet health.
- **Preventative Care:** This generally covers vaccinations, parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, heartworm), and other measures to keep pets healthy and prevent common diseases.
- **Grooming Services:** Explicitly mentioned by a satisfied customer as a service offered ("vet/grooming location for life"), suggesting they provide professional grooming to keep pets looking and feeling their best. This often includes bathing, haircuts, nail trims, and ear cleaning.
- **Dietary Guidance (Intended):** While one review highlighted a negative experience with this specific service, the intent to provide guidance on appropriate food and diet for pets (e.g., for weight management) indicates that nutritional counseling is part of their service offerings. This is a common and crucial aspect of comprehensive pet care.
- **Gentle Handling and Comfort Focus:** Reviews emphasize their effort to be "gentle and caring with my girls" and to "try their best to make them feel comfortable every visit," indicating a priority on reducing stress for pets during examinations and procedures.
- **Treatment for General Health Issues:** Providing diagnosis and treatment for common illnesses, injuries, and other non-emergency medical conditions that pets may experience.
It is important to note that while general practices often offer a wide array of services, including diagnostics (like X-rays, blood tests), general surgery (spay/neuter, mass removal), and dental care, the provided reviews do not explicitly confirm these. However, these are standard for a facility identified as an "Animal Hospital."
John Rolfe Animal Hospital presents several features and highlights that are important for local pet owners to consider:
- **Commitment to Gentle and Caring Treatment:** A significant highlight, strongly emphasized by a positive reviewer, is the hospital's dedication to being "so gentle and caring" with pets and making them "feel comfortable every visit." This focus on reducing pet anxiety during veterinary appointments is invaluable for many owners.
- **Helpful and Easy to Deal With:** One review specifically states that JRAH is "always so helpful and easy to deal with," indicating a positive customer service experience in terms of scheduling and general interactions.
- **Integrated Veterinary and Grooming Services:** The fact that they are considered both a "vet/grooming location" offers convenience for pet owners who prefer a single, trusted location for both medical and aesthetic needs for their animals.
- **Potential for Long-Term Relationships:** The sentiment "They will be our vet/grooming location for life" suggests that the positive aspects of their care foster strong, lasting bonds with client families.
However, it's also important to acknowledge a contrasting highlight from another review:
- **Inconsistent Communication/Support on Sensitive Issues:** One client expressed significant disappointment regarding the handling of their dog's weight problem by Dr. Petruskie. They felt "lectured and ignored" instead of receiving supportive guidance on food options. This particular experience points to a potential area where communication style might vary between practitioners or needs improvement when addressing sensitive topics. For pet owners, feeling supported and receiving actionable advice, rather than just judgment, is crucial, especially concerning chronic health issues like obesity. This indicates that while many experiences are positive, some clients may encounter less helpful interactions on specific topics.

Aug 15, 2024 · hannah shepardSaw Dr Petruskie and was really disappointed in how my dog and how we were treated. Our dog has an obvious weight problem but instead of helping us find the appropriate food to switch her to, we were lectured and ignored. We asked numerous times what food to switch the dog to but instead of providing guidance we were just thrown a few more comments about how our dog is “big as a house” and needs a diet. We KNOW, now help us and leave the comments to being supportive and helpful instead of judgy and unhelpful. Won’t be going back.
Jun 06, 2025 · Barbara BaileyThis is an amazing group of people! They take such great care of our fur babies and treat you like family! Sam, our lab, Millie and Luke our Jack Russells all agree.
Jan 24, 2024 · Rhonda AbellDr. Jeffers & Dr. White are amazing. We have been a patient there for many years. Our Lhasa Apso is a bit contrary and has had behavioral challenges. Dr. Jeffers has helped guide us in giving him corrective behavior to provide Finn with a happy fulfilling life. Katie & Lindsay (vet techs) are always so sweet and show such patience when handling him. He actually wags his tail and is happy to see them. Such sweet ladies! I highly recommend these providers to any pet parent!
Sep 14, 2023 · Jennifer MReally disappointed because the groomers here are amazing. Dr. Infantes has treated my dogs on 2 visits. One, a regular check up, and the other when we came in for grooming, which then had to turn into an office visit despite the fact we had previously sent a photo of the worrisome area and been cleared for grooming. Both times, there was no cost transparency and I was just told "this is what your dogs need." When I asked for costs, there was no direct answer. No alternative options of a treatment plan were given, or even discussed. I would love to have a conversation with the office manager and the physician about how to better communicate treatment options to clients.UPDATE: I give the practice credit because I was able to speak to both Dr. Infantes and the practice manager this afternoon, but won't be changing my review. They shared with me that it's their common behavior NOT to share costs with patients/families as it "can be offensive" and is "not common place." All previous vets we have been to have shared if costs are over $15-20; another note supporting this thought is that grooming services are clearly noted, and confirmed upon booking. Costs for medical treatments need to communicated more effectively. When I asked if treatment options were discussed, they blamed my husband that he "didn't ask" and "he consented to care." My recommendations remain the same: share costs upfront for more transparency and include the family in the treatment options.
